The goal of each library project is to provide a space where children and adults have free access to books and other educational resources. Our policy with new projects is to start small and encourage natural growth based the community's needs and motivation.
We make every effort to work with established local schools, which are under-resourced and can benefit from an integrated community library, to meet the needs of the local student population. Our librarians also network with local adult groups in an effort to provide resources that will useful to the broader community. In 2009, UTRT purchased over 700 books for 4 libraries. We recognize the importance of providing books that are culturally relevant and in an appropriate language. In sourcing books and other educational materials, our main focus is on supporting African publishers, writers and regional book fairs.
